As expected, Friday morning was the coldest morning in years across Florida. The freezing line got as far south as Lee County and Lake Okeechobee as you can see from our dashboard snapshot earlier today:

Below Freezing
There will be a little moderation in the cold for Saturday mornings lows:

However, by Monday, freezing temperatures will work their way south across the Florida peninsula again:

The Eastern half of the country looks to stay below average as we head into what is on average the coldest week of the year:

As for the weekend snow potential, especially across the Southeast, we have a clearer picture of what to expect. Below shows the 24 hr odds of an 1″ of snow from Sat 7 pm to Sun 7 pm:

It’s rare you see Southeast Georgia as the most likely location for accumulating snow. However, that is where we are for this system. One caveat is that the ground will be warm. It may snow enough for 1-2″ of snow, but that much won’t accumulate because of the warmer ground. The snow will also likely fall during the daytime which will reduce totals. Still, 1-2″ are possible especially in any heavier bands of snow. The timing for this event is rain beginning Saturday night with a changeover to snow Sunday morning. All precipitation will end by Sunday Evening.
As for the Northeast, this region will get a couple chances of snow. First up is Friday night into Saturday afternoon where a quick moving system will bring 2-4″ of snow for the interior Northeast with higher amounts possible in the mountains:

The same system bringing the Southeast snow will ride up the Eastern seaboard and bring snow to coastal regions early Sunday AM to Monday AM. 1-3″ of snow are likely with the highest amounts in Southern New England:

After our weekend snow potential, next week will start off quiet but there is the potential for a midweek system to bring another round of snow to the Midwest and Northeast with mostly rain across the south. You can see that system here on the WPC map for next Thursday:
